Present Russian Red Stars — Low Visible 1:48 is a set of self-adhesive masks for spraying the present Russian star in a toned-down, low-visibility pattern. It is an accessory for painting a model, not a kit.

A masking set from the Czech manufacturer Armycast for aircraft models in 1:48 scale. It holds cut self-adhesive stencils for the present Russian national insignia in the so-called low-visibility pattern, that is, in a toned-down form that deliberately makes no use of contrast on the aircraft. The insignia is sprayed in paint through the mask, so no carrier film and no glossy outline is left on the model.
Low-visibility markings came about from an operational need: a bold colored insignia makes an aircraft an easier target to recognize, so on modern machines the change was made to patterns with minimal contrast against the surrounding camouflage. For a modeler there is a practical consequence — markings like that are barely noticeable on a model, and any imperfection of the edge or a glossy decal film gives them away at once. This is exactly where masks make the most sense: a sprayed insignia blends into the surface and can be toned down at will with further coats.
Work with very thin coats and lower pressure — with low contrast even a slight overspray is enough to strengthen the insignia beyond a realistic degree. It helps to mix the color of the insignia with the shade of the base and to tune the intensity step by step, checking from a distance and under different light. Press the edge of the mask down and, once it is off, let the insignia blend in with a uniform matte varnish. Only then apply washes and dust; a toned-down insignia is weakened further under weathering, which is something to reckon with in advance.
The package holds masks only. The model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
