A small resin set from Metallic Details in 1:48 scale. It captures the Mk 24 underwing store in the form the Cessna O-2A Skymaster carried. On light observation aircraft the stores in injection-molded kits tend to be worked out only roughly, or to be missing altogether, so a separate casting is the quickest way to complete a model with a convincing load. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory to a model that is already built.
The Cessna O-2A Skymaster is the military version of the civil twin-engine Skymaster. Its engines are mounted in tandem, one at the front and the other behind the cabin, and the tail surfaces are carried on a pair of booms. It was used for observation, reconnaissance and forward air control, that is for tasks flown slowly, low down and often at night. The equipment on the wing pylons went with that, and the Mk 24 designation belonged among it. The store has a cylindrical body and is simple in design, so on a model it works above all as a characteristic shape under the wing that completes the fit for a particular mission.
Wash the casting in warm water with detergent and free it of mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw as close to the part as possible, sand the remainder away and take care that the cylindrical body stays straight and even. Sand wet and protect your airways. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; on small parts an accelerator helps, because it shortens the time you have to hold them. Apply a primer before painting. The base shade follows, then a discreet highlight on the edges and, if you like, fine traces of service. Before you glue it to the model, check the position of the pylon and the symmetry of the left and right sides, because on small stores any asymmetry shows at once.
This is a detail accessory, not a stand-alone model. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
