An aftermarket set of photo-etched brass in 1:48 scale meant for the Tamiya 32518 plastic kit. The set holds neither the vehicle nor plastic parts; it supplements them. In scope it belongs among the full sets rather than the small accessories, which shows in the number of fine parts and in how much time you will spend over the model.
The Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. J was the last production version of the German Pz.IV medium tank, built from the second half of 1944. Compared with the earlier versions it was technically simplified: the auxiliary generator with electric turret traverse was dropped, so the turret was from then on turned by hand, and the fuel supply was revised. The main armament was the long 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun, and the sides of the vehicle were protected by light screens against shaped-charge and anti-tank rifle ammunition.
With a large set it pays to plan the work in advance. Go through the instructions and divide the parts into those that have to go onto the model before the hull and the superstructure are closed up and those that can be added at the end. Brass that is unwilling to bend into a soft curve can be carefully annealed over a flame until it changes color slightly, and once cooled it is more pliable. Sets of this scope usually also bring parts for which you first have to remove something from the plastic on the model, so keep a sharp knife and fine files at hand. Apply the paint to photo-etched parts in thin coats, otherwise you will clog the texture you bought the set for.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, which it does not include. The glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
