1:48 RAF SPITFIRES MK.VIII, PART 1

The real subject

The Spitfire Mk.VIII was one of the high-altitude versions of the British Supermarine Spitfire fighter. The Royal Air Force used it above all outside western Europe, among other places in the Mediterranean and in Southeast Asia, where the machines served in tropical form. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject precisely because of the color schemes, which differ markedly from those of the machines fighting over the Channel.

What the sheet offers

It is a decal sheet in 1:48 scale with markings for Mk.VIII machines in RAF service. The first part designation suggests that the set continues with a further sheet, so anyone interested in the theme can expand a collection of markings step by step. The sheet is an accessory for a kit you already have and replaces or supplements the markings supplied in the box.

Application step by step

• Before you soak the sheet, check in the enclosed instructions that it is not a self-adhesive version. A soaked self-adhesive film is ruined for good.
• Prepare the area under the decal with a gloss coat; on a matte surface air is held under the film.
• Cut the item out close to the edge of the printing and soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds.
• Let it rest for a while out of the water, and only then slide the film off the backing onto the model.
• Fine-tune the position with a brush, blot the moisture away and use a softener on a broken-up surface.
• Once it is perfectly dry, seal the whole thing with a clear coat so that the edges of the film disappear.

Who it is for

The sheet will be appreciated by modelers building a Spitfire in 1:48 scale who want markings other than those their kit offers. Before buying, compare the shape and size of the items with the model you want to use them on. The kit itself, paints, clear coat and softener are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
