The kit from the manufacturer Brengun handles in 1:48 scale one of the most striking small aircraft ever to come about. The Quickie has such an unusual arrangement that you will not mistake it in a display case even from the other side of the room. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted and thanks to the small dimensions of the subject the finished model is very compact too.
The Quickie is a single-seat homebuilt aircraft designed in the circle of the designer Burt Rutan, who became renowned for unconventional aerodynamic conceptions. Instead of the classic arrangement with a wing and tail surfaces it carries two lifting surfaces one behind the other, the front of which at the same time carries the main landing wheels at its tips. A small low-powered industrial two-cylinder engine powered the aircraft, yet thanks to its low weight and clean shapes it reached remarkable economy for its class. The machine came about at the end of the 1970s and became the model for a whole series of further designs with a similar conception.
The model is small, so it pays to work with a sharp scalpel and fine abrasive paper and to check the symmetry at every step. The seating of both lifting surfaces is the key: check the angle and their relative position dry, and only then glue, otherwise the model will look crooked in the display case. Finish the cockpit before closing the fuselage. Homebuilt subjects tend to be smooth and glossy, so sand the surface carefully and spray primer, because every scratch is emphasized in a gloss. Choose the colors according to the particular machine, as these aircraft often carry striking private schemes. Apply the decals onto gloss clear and finally unify the surface with gloss or semi-gloss clear, keeping the weathering minimal.
