A resin accessory in 1:48 scale from the Swedish maker Maestro Models. It contains a replacement nose section for converting a SAAB 35 Draken model to the reconnaissance S35E version. This is not a model of an aircraft nor a kit, but a conversion part with which you modify a finished kit obtained separately. The set is intended for the Hasegawa kit.
The SAAB 35 Draken is a Swedish supersonic aircraft with a characteristic double delta wing. The reconnaissance S35E version had photographic equipment built into the nose instead of radar, so it differs from the fighter versions in the shape of the front fuselage as well as in the arrangement of the camera windows. It is exactly this change that ordinary kits mostly do not cover, and a reconnaissance Draken therefore cannot be built without a replacement nose. The conversion part deals with the heart of the rebuild: you get an accurately shaped nose that you fit to the fuselage once the original section is cut off.
Before starting, wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that no mold release agent stays on the surface. Cut the original nose off the model gradually, leaving a margin of a few millimeters, and only then level the cut by sanding wet against the resin part. It pays to cut along an engraved panel, which serves as a natural dividing line. When sanding resin, protect your airways; the dust is very fine. Attach the joint with cyanoacrylate glue and fill any gap with filler mixed with a little cyanoacrylate; such a mixture sands about as hard as the surrounding material and the transition will not crack. Weight normally belongs in the nose, otherwise the model will sit down on its tail. Apply a filler primer before painting; it will reveal any remaining unevenness.
This is a resin conversion accessory for advanced modelers, not a model or a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
