The model offers a detailed hull, the flight deck and the hangar deck and further features of the ship. Small models of shipboard aircraft are usually included.
USS Yorktown (CV-5) was an American aircraft carrier commissioned in 1937. During the Second World War she became the flagship of a task force and was lost at the Battle of Midway in June 1942. She is among the best-known American carriers of the early Pacific war.
With ships in 1:700 scale, plan the order of building the hull, the decks and the superstructures in advance. A primer and an airbrushed coat give even coverage; finish the fine detail and the deck aircraft with a brush. For a faithful look, bring out the panels with a wash and add a light patina.
