This is not a ship model but a flight deck set that combines wood veneer and photo-etched parts for a faithful rendering of the flight deck of a model of the Japanese aircraft carrier Ryujo in her state after the second refit. The veneer is laser-cut, with the planks and seams marked out. The set is meant for the Aoshima kit.
The Ryujo was a light aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Her flight deck is the dominant element of a model; a faithful rendering of the wooden surface and the fine photo-etched details markedly raises the realism. The version after the second refit matches the later operational appearance of the ship.
Degrease the plastic surface before sticking the deck down. The veneer is pressed on thanks to its own adhesive layer, and the edges can be secured spot by spot with super glue. Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife, shape them at the edges and glue them on with a tiny drop of super glue. The wood can be left natural, or toned lightly with oils and washes and sealed with a matte varnish.
This is an accessory, not a ship model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
