The Okinoshima was a minelayer of the Imperial Japanese Navy, serving to lay minefields and for other auxiliary tasks. Alongside her armament she carried equipment for handling mines. Specialized ships of this kind formed an important, if less conspicuous, part of the fleet.
The model can be built as a full hull or as a waterline version (at the level of the waterline), according to the contents of the kit. Glue the fine parts and the superstructures precisely; the railings and the cranes can be supplemented with photo-etched parts from the accessories. Lay the hull and the decks on with an airbrush and bring the details out with a wash. The ship will stand out well on a suitable stand or in a diorama with a water surface.
