A supplementary set of small parts in 1:700 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Pit-Road. It is not a ship kit but a set that a modeler buys for a model already obtained, in order to replace simplified parts of the armament and the deck equipment. The range is divided into several parts and this item is the third in order; the individual parts differ in their make-up, so they can be combined.
In ship kits the armament and equipment tend to be molded in one piece with the superstructure or the deck, which is simple to produce but the result reads softly and the shapes are too thick for the scale. Separately produced parts can be molded more finely and with crisper detail, so once they are used the finished model looks noticeably better in exactly the places the eye goes to first. The set also suits cases where you are building an older tooling that lacks some of the equipment. What is specifically in this package is stated on the box.
A practical approach is to paint the whole set while still on the sprue and only then cut the parts off. You save yourself holding miniature components in tweezers and the paint reaches places you could not get to once they are glued on. Run the cut a little away from the part and clean the sprue nub up with a fine file. When gluing, do not put the glue on the model but a small drop on a surface and dip the tip of the part into it. Before using the set, check on a photograph of the particular ship where each item of equipment belongs, because the arrangement differed from ship to ship and from year to year.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package.
