A plastic kit of the American fast battleship USS South Dakota in 1:700 scale from the Vee Hobby brand. The figure 1944.6 designates the configuration of the ship in June 1944, that is the late wartime state. This is the basic one of three levels of packaging of the same model. The exact composition of the package is stated on the packaging.
The South Dakota was the first unit of the class of the same name of fast battleships of the US Navy. Against the older types she had a shorter and more heavily armored hull and the main armament in three gun turrets. In the Pacific she served mainly as an escort for aircraft carrier formations, where she was useful through her dense anti-aircraft defense. By the middle of 1944 her light armament had grown and her radar equipment had changed, and it is precisely this state that the kit captures.
Divide the build into the hull with the deck, the superstructure and the armament. It is practical to paint the superstructure separately and glue it on only at the end; the masking is then markedly simpler. Apply the paint with an airbrush, thinned and in thin coats, as a thick coat in this scale floods the engraving of the deck. Fit the masts, antennas and barrels of the small guns last of all and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Keep the weathering sparing; on a model only a few tens of centimeters long an overdone wash looks implausible.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
