Wooden deck 1:700 USS Yorktown — precisely cut veneer of real wood that replaces the plastic surface of the flight deck on a model of the American aircraft carrier and gives it a realistic, display-quality look.
Responsibility details are not available.
A thin veneer of real wood, precisely cut to the shape of the flight deck of a model of the American aircraft carrier USS Yorktown in 1:700 scale. This is not a standalone kit but an add-on made for a particular kit, whose designation we give in the name of the product. Real wood has a natural grain that painted plastic cannot fully imitate, and it gives a finished model a warm, credible look. The cut-outs allow for the openings for the elevators and the deck equipment, so once seated the deck lines up exactly with the surrounding detail.
USS Yorktown was the lead ship of the American aircraft carrier class of the same name and one of the pillars of the Pacific fleet at the start of the Second World War. She took part in the Battle of the Coral Sea, after which she was repaired in record time, and played a key role in the Battle of Midway, where in June 1942 she was sunk after air attacks and a torpedo hit. The flight decks of American aircraft carriers of that time were wooden, which is why a veneer of real wood is the most faithful way to render them on a model.
Before sticking it down, do a dry run and check that all the cut-outs fit the deck detail. Work from the center of the deck toward the edges and smooth the veneer down gradually with a soft cloth so that no bubbles remain under it. It is advisable to apply the deck only after the surrounding colored areas have been sprayed, and to even it out at the end with a fine matte or satin varnish.
This is an add-on to a kit, not a standalone model. Before buying, compare the information in the name of the product with the kit you are building.
