An injection-molded plastic kit of an unusual American experimental aircraft of the 1930s. The model in 1:72 scale comes from the Ukrainian brand Avis and, like many short-run kits, makes higher demands on the modeler: the parts have coarser sprue attachments, there are no precise locating pins and before gluing you should expect to work on the fit and to sand. The package holds plastic sprues, a decal sheet and illustrated instructions. The finished model is roughly 9 cm long.
The American Gyro AG-4 Crusader was an all-metal four-seat low-wing aircraft with two engines, two tail booms and an aerodynamic, teardrop-shaped fuselage with fixed landing gear. It appeared in the middle of the 1930s in the United States as an ambitious civil project that was to bring a fast and economical touring aircraft. The prototype was flown, but production never followed, among other reasons because of the maker's financial troubles. It is precisely its rarity and unusual shape that make this aircraft a rewarding subject for collectors of out-of-the-way machines.
With a short-run kit it pays to assemble the parts dry first, adjust the mating faces and only then glue. Join the plastic with thin modeling cement, fill the seams and sand them down. The cockpit and the fixed landing gear can be finished off with small details as you like. For the all-metal look of the prototype, glossy metallic shades applied with an airbrush over a smooth, well-sanded surface suit well; a metallic paint has to be stirred thoroughly and applied only at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
