1:72 Fw 58 C nachtjaeger gun nose is an OWL decal sheet for a model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 58 Weihe converted into a night fighter machine with a solid nose carrying armament.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of waterslide decals for a plastic model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 58 Weihe in the C version in 1:72 scale. It differs from the other sheets for this type in that it is aimed neither at a training nor at a ground-attack machine but at a night fighter conversion with a solid nose in which the armament was concentrated. The contents of the package are a printed carrier film, not a kit.
The Fw 58 Weihe was a twin-engine multipurpose aircraft of the mid-1930s, built in training, liaison, ambulance and transport forms. The C version had a glazed nose; the conversion into a night fighter machine replaced that nose with a solid section carrying armament, which fundamentally changes the silhouette of a model. Conversions of obsolete types like this were common in the early period of night fighting, before aircraft developed directly for this role came to the fore. With the change of role the markings changed as well, because dark finishes called for less contrasting characters.
Once the decals have dried, wipe the surface with a damp cloth and remove any adhesive residue; after varnishing it would show up as milky smears around the characters. Then spray the whole model with matte or semi-matte varnish, which will unify the gloss and cover the edges of the film. With a night finish it pays to choose a semi-matte rather than a deep matte: a completely matte surface reads as flat in 1:72 scale and small characters are lost on it. Weathering comes into play only once this layer has cured.
The decals are an accessory to a model. The kit, paints and varnish are not included in the package.
