The resin accessory Kriegsmarine life raft in 1:72 scale from CMK is intended for ship models. It is not a kit of a vessel but a detail for the deck.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin casting of a life raft in the pattern used on German warships during the Second World War. It is not a model of a vessel nor a part of one: it is a standalone deck detail used to complete models of ships and boats, or scenes in a diorama.
Life rafts were stowed on the decks of warships in easily accessible places, typically by the superstructure or along the side railings, so that they could be released quickly. On a model it is a small thing that nevertheless raises the credibility of the deck a great deal: an empty deck looks empty, whereas a raft, crates and other equipment give the model scale and life. The manufacturer also offers rafts in the pattern for other types of vessel in the same range, so it pays to compare which one matches your model.
Wash the casting in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting block off with a saw and wet-sand the surface with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue or epoxy. Apply a thin filler primer before painting. A raft is usually a combination of a wooden or cork filling and a supporting frame, so it pays to tell the materials apart by shade and to add a wash that will bring out the engraved detail; a dry brush then picks out the edges. Salt and exposure to the weather are suggested well by a fine lightening of the upper surfaces.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
