Replacement tracks in the wide winter version 56 centimeters across for models of the German Nashorn and Hummel self-propelled guns. Seen from the side the track is the largest continuous area of the whole running gear, so a swap shows at first glance.
The Nashorn, listed under the designation Sd.Kfz. 164, was a German tank destroyer with a long 88 mm gun in an open superstructure at the rear. The Hummel, that is Sd.Kfz. 165, carried a heavy 150 mm howitzer on the same chassis. Both vehicles stood on a common chassis derived from the Pz.Kpfw.III and Pz.Kpfw.IV tanks, and so they also shared the running gear and the tracks.
Winterketten are widened tracks fitted in winter and in waterlogged terrain. A larger ground-contact area reduces the pressure the vehicle exerts on the ground, so it does not sink in as much in deep snow and mud. On a model you will recognize them by the extensions, which project out at the sides beyond the outline of the hull and visibly widen the silhouette of the running gear.
Cut the excess material off a short way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Dry-fit them and make sure the track lies against the wheels along its whole length and that the overhang at the sides is the same on both flanks. Adapt the glue and the procedure to the material of the parts according to the manufacturer's instructions.
The package contains tracks. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
