A decal sheet in 1:72 scale for the Soviet Polikarpov I-153 fighter biplane, with the markings of Soviet Air Force machines.
Responsibility details are not available.
The I-153 closed the line of Soviet fighter biplanes. What was remarkable about it was the joining of two worlds: a biplane layout with struts and wires on the one hand, and retractable landing gear with a radial engine on the other. The cranked upper wing, which it owes its nickname Chaika to, improved the pilot's view forward. By the time the machine reached production, biplane fighters were already losing their breath against monoplanes, yet the I-153 did see combat, and in 1941 it served mainly for attacks on ground targets. The subtitle of the sheet points to the period term for Soviet airmen, who were called Stalin's Falcons.
Decals in 1:72 scale for building a model of the I-153. The extent of the sheet and the number of marking variants offered is given in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
The sheet is a classic wet decal. Cut the subject out closely, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and wait until the film releases from the backing paper. Apply it onto smooth gloss varnish. In a small scale the elements are tiny and tear easily, so handle them with a brush or a wooden stick rather than gripping the film directly with tweezers. A decal softener settles the decal between the ribs of the fabric areas, and once it has dried a covering coat of varnish follows.
For modelers of the Soviet Air Force in 1:72 scale who want to give a finished machine a particular look. The package holds a decal sheet; the aircraft model, the paints and the varnish do not belong to it, unless stated otherwise.
