This set from the manufacturer SX-Art is neither a kit nor a decal. They are self-adhesive stencils that are applied to a model already sprayed and define the boundaries of the individual color fields of the camouflage. The modeler then sprays a further shade and lifts the stencil off. Beware of a common misunderstanding: these are not masks for the cockpit glazing but stencils for masking the camouflage pattern on the upper surfaces. The set is prepared for the IBG kit.
The PZL.23 Karas was a Polish single-engine all-metal aircraft of the light bomber and reconnaissance category, designed in the middle of the 1930s. It had a high-wing layout, fixed landing gear with wheel spats and a radial engine. The PZL.42 was a further developed variant of the same concept, which differed from the basic type among other things in the arrangement of the vertical tail surfaces. Both machines carried the typical two-color finish, in which the exact course of the transitions between the fields is hard to estimate by eye, and that is precisely why the stencils pay off.
First spray the lower, lighter shade and let it cure properly, ideally overnight. Then apply the stencil and press the whole edge down carefully with your fingers or a wooden toothpick, especially in the places where it crosses an engraved line or a rounded surface. Lay the paint on in thin coats perpendicular to the edge, not at an angle under the stencil, otherwise the shade will creep under. Lift the stencil off while the paint has only just set, not completely hard; it will then come away cleanly and will not tear the edge. If you want a softer, scattered edge, lift the stencil slightly at the edges, for instance with a thin strip of paper under it.
The package contains stencils only. The model, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise. The stencils are cut for a particular kit, and on another tooling the shapes need not match exactly.
