This is not a kit of equipment but an accessory for a diorama. The set holds resin castings of the standard PO-2m reinforced concrete fence in 1:72 scale, specifically eight fence panels and nine footings. The parts are unpainted and unassembled, and glue and paints are not included in the package. One set builds a continuous run of fencing; a longer wall is put together from several boxes, because the panels repeat.
The standard reinforced concrete fences of the PO series were the common standard in eastern Europe for enclosing military airfields, barracks, depots, repair plants and civilian industrial compounds. The system rests on a simple principle: repeating panels are seated into concrete footings, so the fence can be put up quickly in any length and moved just as quickly. The designation PO-2m matches a particular type of panel, as the individual variants of the series differ in the division and the relief of the front face. Fencing of exactly this kind forms the characteristic background of a great many period photographs of aircraft and ground equipment, and in a diorama it therefore pins down the setting at once.
Wash the resin parts first in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, as the remains of the mold release agent would otherwise stop the paint from keying. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a fine cutter rather than with sprue cutters and level the surface with sanding paper; work with respiratory protection while sanding resin. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), as plastic cement has no effect on resin. Apply a primer before painting and stand the panels on a flat surface so that the wall does not end up wavy. Concrete looks best when the base light gray shade is broken up: a dark wash into the joints, a dry brush on the edges, pigments for a layer of dust and mud at the foot of the fence. Add small chips and greenish patches with a brush.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
