The kit captures an unrealized project for a long-range rocket bomber known under the designation Silbervogel. The model comes in 1:72 scale as an unassembled kit meant to be built and painted yourself. The exact makeup of the package, the number of parts and the range of marking schemes offered are given in the instructions in the package.
The Silbervogel was a design study by the pair Eugen Sänger and Irene Bredt from the late 1930s and the 1940s. It was a proposal for a single-seat rocket aircraft that was to be launched from a ground catapult track and powered by a liquid-propellant rocket engine. The machine was to climb to great altitudes and then travel in a series of bounces off the denser layers of the atmosphere, which is called skip-glide flight. It was precisely this principle that was to make a so-called antipodal range theoretically possible, that is striking a target on the opposite side of the globe. The proposal never got beyond the drawing board and no aircraft of this type was built or flown. The aerodynamic work that grew up around the project did, however, later become a subject of professional interest in the study of hypersonic flight and of high-speed gliders.
First separate the parts carefully from the sprues and clean up the parting lines. Glue the plastic parts with thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the seam by capillary action and leaves no surplus. Before painting we recommend spraying the whole model with primer, which evens the surface out and reveals any remaining sanding scratches. Given the smooth shaping of the fuselage, an airbrush and a smooth matte or semi-gloss surface pay off on this kind of subject; apply any decals over a gloss coat and even the surface out at the end with a top coat to the degree of gloss you want.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
