Vickers British Hyland Type E 1:72 (GasPatch models)

A resin accessory in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer GasPatch models. It is not an aircraft kit but a set of castings of the British aviation Vickers machine gun in the form that the designation Hyland Type E sets apart from the other versions of the same range. According to the name there are two pieces in the package. The part is fitted into another model as a replacement for a coarser plastic piece.

The real subject

The Vickers was a British machine gun of 7.7 mm caliber, water-cooled in its ground form. The aviation version used air cooling and a jacket with holes. On fighters of the First World War period it was mounted fixed ahead of the cockpit and fired through the propeller arc. The individual versions differed in the details of the mounting and the controls, which is also the reason why this range of accessories offers several different forms.

Building and painting tips

Do a complete dry assembly before gluing. Hold the part in place with tweezers, look at the model from the front, from the side and from above, and only then decide on the position. With resin it holds true that cyanoacrylate glue sets quickly and correcting the position once it has dried means risking breaking the part. It helps to mark the position in advance with a light scribed line or to make a paper template. If there are several parts, lay them out dry in the order in which you will fit them so that they do not get mixed up during the work. Leave the fitting until the paint on the fuselage is finished.
