A set of photo-etched numerals 4 to 5 mm high. Unlike decals these are physical parts of thin photo-etched sheet that are broken out of the fret and glued onto a surface. The figure in the name is a dimension, not a scale, so the set is not tied to one model scale. In 1:35 scale, 4 to 5 mm corresponds roughly to a numeral 14 to 17 cm high in reality, that is the size of a house number or of the numbering on a gate.
A decal lies in the plane of the surface and disappears under side lighting. A photo-etched numeral has thickness, casts a shadow of its own and behaves differently from the surrounding surface at a different viewing angle, so it looks like a real screwed-on figure. That is a crucial difference for details that are close to the viewer in a diorama: house numbers, orientation signage on doors, identification numerals on machines, railroad cars or cabinets. At the same time you paint the numeral as you need, including a metallic shade that a decal will never give.
Separate the numerals with a sharp knife or photo-etch scissors against a hard surface rather than by twisting, otherwise they bend. Sand the remnant of the fret tab away. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied in a minimal amount to the tip of a toothpick rather than directly to the part. The sheet is smooth, so degreasing and a primer intended for metal help before painting. Mark the line out beforehand with a fine pencil or masking tape so that the numerals sit on one line and have equal spacing.
