Mitsubishi A6M5 Reisen canopy masks 1:32 follow the frames of the canopy, so you can spray them without paint running over and without trimming tape with a knife.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of painting templates for the canopy glazing of a Mitsubishi A6M5 Reisen model in 1:32 scale. It is the basic variant of masks for the outer face of the clear part: the templates follow the shape of the frames, are applied to the glazing and are taken off once the spraying is done.
Why not tape and a knife
The frames of the Reisen canopy are not straight strips. They run across a curved surface, change width and meet at sharp angles. Trimming tape on them with a knife means running the blade over clear plastic, which remembers every score and cannot be polished so that no trace of a scratch remains. A die-cut template leaves that step out altogether: the outline is ready and you only lay it on the frame and press it down.
The mask protects the clear part outside painting too
An applied mask is protection as well. The glazing tends to be one of the first parts to be fitted, and it then waits on the model the whole time the seams are being sanded, filled and primed. The film holds on it and screens it from sanding dust and from filler residue, so the clear surface does not have to be rescued laboriously at the end.
Degrease the part, let it dry completely and apply the templates to a dry surface. Press the edges down with the blunt tip of a pair of tweezers. The interior shade is usually sprayed first, then the primer and finally the outer camouflage, so that the frame follows on from the surrounding surfaces. Take the mask off once the paint has dried, pulling along the surface and without prying with a knife.
