A printed scenic base 450 x 450 mm for models in 1:72 scale. Unlike most bases in this range, it shows not a shore airfield surface but a section of the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in the area of No. 2 elevator, in its state as of 2020. It is neither a kit nor a decal. A finished model is stood on the base and gains a setting that fundamentally changes the overall impression with carrier aircraft.
A carrier deck is a visually quite different setting from the concrete surface of a shore station: divided differently, with its own system of markings and with the edge of the elevator as a strong reference point. The choice of scene thereby also narrows the choice of model. What belongs under this base is a carrier aircraft or helicopter in present-day configuration, that is one it made sense to meet on deck as of 2020.
A carrier deck is by its nature the most worn operational surface there is to put under a model. The surface is matte and rough, full of scuffs from wheels, chains and handling equipment, and the areas of color on it are never unbroken. A model standing on such a surface must therefore not look as though it came from a show stand. Carrier machines have scuffed leading edges, dark landing gear bays and an uneven shade of skin, because salt damp does its work. If you are unsure how far to go, follow the rule that for a carrier aircraft a little more wear is more believable than a little less.
