About product

A wicker seat with a pierced back 1:48 from GasPatch models, without a leather pad

A resin interior accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. The set contains the bare wicker seat without a leather pad in two heights of back, low and tall. The back is in the pierced form, that is with openings in the area of the weave.

What the part replaces on the model

A pierced back is the most awkward variant of a seat for injected plastic. The openings either are missing altogether and are replaced by engraving into a solid area, or a mold manages them only in a coarse pattern with thick dividers. On the resin replacement the openings really are open, so there is a view through the back to the rear bulkhead of the cockpit and the seat looks light, the way it looked in reality as well. The absent leather pad moreover lets the clean structure of the weave stand out across the whole area.

Tips for working with resin

The key place is the mating surface the seat stands on, on the floor or on the frame of the cockpit. Once the casting block is cut off, level it by drawing it over sandpaper laid on glass or on another flat board. Hold the part perpendicular while doing so and check the light under it. An uneven lower edge is the most common reason why a seat stands crooked in a cockpit, and in a closed space that is hard to put right afterwards. Sanding is best done wet, so that as little dust as possible arises.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want really open openings in the back in the cockpit
  • Builders of machines with a clearly visible interior
  • Those who are building the version without a leather pad
  • More experienced modelers used to working with fragile resin castings

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right. The parts are supplied unpainted; glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A pierced back is precisely the element the seat is changed for a resin one because of. We recommend judging the particular depth of the detailing from the photographs of the product.

Usually an insufficiently sanded remainder of the casting block on the lower edge is to blame. It helps to level the mating surface by drawing it over sandpaper on a flat board.

Yes. Release agent from the mold clings to the castings, and without washing in warm water with a detergent the primer holds badly.
