1:35 Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. F2/G — turret mantlet with a turned 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 barrel and an early muzzle brake is a detail accessory from PANZER ART for a plastic model in 1:35 scale. It is not a vehicle kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set is not a tank model but a replacement part for a plastic kit you already own. It holds a turned barrel of the 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 gun in the version with an early muzzle brake and the matching mantlet, or shield, of the turret. Unlike plastic, the turned part has a perfectly round section and an open muzzle, so gluing halves together, filling and sanding a lengthwise joint are all avoided, and on a long tank barrel that is the most demanding part of the build.
Why this particular combination — the mantlet and the barrel belong together as a whole. The appearance of the mantlet on the Pz.Kpfw. IV changed between production batches along with the armament, which is why the set comes as a matched pair and not just as a tube on its own.
The Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. F2 was the first production version of the Panzer IV with the long 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 gun, which replaced the short L/24 gun originally meant for infantry support. The vehicle thereby gained the ability to destroy armored vehicles effectively and became the backbone German medium tank of the second half of the war. The Ausf. F2 designation was later merged with the following Ausf. G, which is why both variants are given together in the modeling literature. Early examples carried a different shape of muzzle brake from later production, and it is that one this set captures.
First free the parts from casting blocks and gates, and try the surfaces by which the set seats into the turret dry against the plastic kit part. Both the turned and the resin part are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); plastic cement does not hold on them. Degrease the surface before painting and use a good primer, because on smooth turned metal the paint peels off without one. Pick out the muzzle and the muzzle brake with a dark shade and traces of soot, go lightly over the edges of the mantlet with a dry brush and bring out the gaps with a wash.
This is an accessory to a plastic model, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
