GR86 Red is the red from the color range of the Toyota GR86 coupe, the second generation of the light rear-wheel-drive sports car.

The shade refers to the Toyota GR86, a coupe presented in 2021. The letters GR before the number belong to the brand's sports division, under which the Japanese maker groups its sharper cars. It went on sale alongside a sister coupe from another Japanese car maker, with which it shares its engineering.
The GR86 follows on from the previous coupe of the same philosophy and keeps to a proven recipe: low weight, a flat four-cylinder mounted back behind the front axle and a driven rear axle without forced induction. Against its predecessor the displacement of the engine grew, which gave the car pull at lower revs, where the earlier version felt hollow. The low-mounted engine keeps the center of gravity close to the road, and from there comes the car's reputation as an approachable and playful machine. The body stayed compact and low, with a long hood and a short tail, and red is one of the colors the car has been sold in since its introduction.
It aims at builders of civilian Japanese cars who want a red from the real palette of a particular type rather than the first red that comes to hand. Modern paints have a different character from period colors and on a smooth body that is noticed at once. A deep red is moreover a shade on which the quality of surface preparation is most visible on a model. On the car the red meets dark plastic sills and the frame around the grille, so a bold contrast of color arises on a model.
