A plastic kit of the Japanese multi-purpose frigate FFM-1 Mogami in 1:700 scale from the maker Tamiya. The model represents the first unit of the new Mogami class with its characteristic angular superstructures of reduced radar reflection. The hull is split into a left and a right half, the gun turret rotates and can be elevated, and the hangar for the shipboard helicopter can be built with the doors open or closed. The finished model reaches about 190 mm in length and belongs to the popular waterline range.
The Mogami is a modern Japanese frigate of multi-purpose designation: it combines the anti-air, anti-ship and mine countermeasures roles and places an emphasis on reduced detectability, a reduced crew and a high degree of automation. The first unit entered service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in 2022. Smooth silhouettes, an integrated mast with sensors and a clean deck make the Mogami one of the most modern surface ships of its category.
Glue the halves of the hull with a thin cement for plastic and sand the seam at the join once it has dried. As a waterline model it shows well on a surface rendered as blue water or on a stand. For the superstructures use flat shades of naval gray, bring out the fine panel lines with a dark wash and carefully thin the antennas made from the sprues. An airbrush will help you achieve smooth coverage of large surfaces with no brush marks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
