About product

The K-Bg-S 12b Utrzeny in 1:1000 Scale

A model of an isolated artillery observation post of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications in the small 1:1000 scale. It is made by 3D printing and consists of the main shell of the work and of two sections of the diamond ditch, which complete the surroundings of the structure. The small scale suits building whole groups of fortifications or models of landscape sectors, where the individual works form a legible system.

The real subject

The work Utrzeny belongs among the isolated artillery observation posts of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications built in the second half of the 1930s. It stands in the Kraliky fortress area near Kraliky. Tactically it came under the Hurka artillery fortress, but it was not connected to it by underground galleries and therefore worked as a separate structure. It was built to the third level of resistance and has three levels, with the structure deliberately sunk below the level of the terrain so that it would stand out from its surroundings as little as possible. The work is among the best-preserved structures of the whole area and carries the last armored cupola surviving in the Kraliky fortifications.

Building and painting tips

On 3D prints, first remove any supports and printing residue and sand the surfaces with fine sandpaper. The layering of the print is well covered by a filler primer applied in several thin coats; once it has dried, sand the surface lightly again. Paint the concrete in gray shades, setting the surface slightly apart from the edges, add a dark wash into the joints and light drybrushing on the exposed edges. Render the armored cupola and the metal elements in a darker shade with a hint of corrosion. Complete the terrain around the work with pigments, fine sand and static grass; in the chosen scale, pick the finest materials you can.

Who the model is for

  • Anyone interested in the Czechoslovak prewar fortifications and their structures
  • Builders of groups and landscape sectors in 1:1000 scale
  • Collectors of fortification subjects and visitors to fortress museums
  • Modelers who want to try painting concrete surfaces

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The model is made by 3D printing. Before painting we recommend removing the remains of the supports, sanding the surfaces and applying a filler primer, which covers the layering.

Besides the main shell of the work it also contains two sections of the diamond ditch. Paints, glue and material for the terrain are not included.

It was an isolated artillery observation post that belonged tactically to the Hurka fortress but was not connected to it underground. It is among the best-preserved works of the Kraliky fortress area.
