A small, tightly focused accessory for the build. A sheet of self-adhesive kabuki tape masks cut to the shape of the exhaust nozzle segments of the Phantom model in the C and D versions in 1:48 scale. The set does not deal with the glazing or with anything else; it is meant solely for the nozzles and assumes you will use it alongside a larger masking set, and the sheet is correspondingly small. The exact list of contents is given by the manufacturer on the box.
The rear end of a twin-engine aircraft is the place everyone who walks around a model looks at. The nozzles have a different coloring from the rest of the airframe, usually several metallic shades with differing degrees of sheen, and the boundaries between them follow regular petals. Such a boundary is hard to make around a circular circumference with tape applied by hand, and it never comes out the same on both nozzles. Yet it is precisely the asymmetry between the left and the right nozzle that is most distracting on a finished model.
Always stir a metallic paint thoroughly, as its pigment settles to the bottom quickly. Spray it onto a smooth, well-prepared base, ideally over a dark primer left to cure properly. Work from the lighter metallic shades to the darker ones, because metallic coats are hard to overspray and do not take kindly to tape being applied to a finished surface. Lift the masks soon after the paint has flashed off. Leave the heat-staining and grime effects to the very end and lay them on in light, translucent passes rather than in opaque paint.
