This set from the Japanese brand Top Studio is a detailing accessory to a plastic kit, not a model of a car. It addresses one particular assembly: the connection points of the electrical runs on the engine, in the cockpit and along the frame of a large model of a racing car. The figure of 2.0 mm gives the diameter of the connector, and the scale of the model is 1:12.
Where the connectors come into their own
In the large 1:12 scale the engine bay is clearly visible and simplified plastic runs in it are distracting. Modelers therefore replace the wiring with wire or silicone tubing. The free end of such a run needs a termination, though, otherwise the build looks unfinished. A turned brass connector provides this termination and at the same time holds the run in the right position.
Before gluing, degrease the metal parts and remove any burrs with a fine file. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate) in a really small amount, applied with the tip of a wire; overflowing glue will dull the varnish around it. It works well to try the path of the run dry, to mark the entry and exit point and only then to glue. Brass holds paint only after a primer for metal. If you leave the metallic look, we recommend only a dark wash to bring out the parting lines and a light matting of the surroundings, so that the connector does not look like a new component.
