This item is not a model of the motorcycle, but a detailing accessory to one. It is intended for a build of the racing Suzuki RGV-Gamma with the factory abbreviation XR74 in 1:12 scale and addresses a single assembly: the front suspension. The production plastic parts of the fork tend to be simplified, the parting line of the mold runs exactly along the most exposed edge of the leg, and plastic will never imitate the smooth surface of a slider the way a separately made part can.
What the set addresses
On a model of a racing machine the front fork is the most exposed part of the chassis to the eye. Only the front fender and part of the fairing cover it, so the whole length of the legs, the mounting of the brake calipers and the vicinity of the wheel axle are visible. What is more, the geometry of the whole model converges on the fork: the steering angle, the height of the front end and whether the machine stands straight on its stand. A more accurate replacement therefore helps not only the look but also the fitting of the front wheel without play.
First put the assembly together dry and check that both legs are the same length and parallel, otherwise the front of the model will be twisted and the wheel will stand askew. Smooth metal and resin surfaces cannot be joined with a cement for plastic, which works as a solvent for polystyrene; use super glue, and on larger parts rather a gel one, so that time is left for alignment. Degrease the glued surfaces beforehand and leave them free of paint. Either do not paint the polished tubes at all or mask them, and spray the matte parts in a thin coat over a base. Fit the fork only after the fender and the fairing have been varnished, so that you do not have to move the finished part again.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit of the motorcycle. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
