A detailing accessory to a model, not the model itself. The set is the tenth item of Top Studio's numbered range of chain sets and is aimed at a single place on a model of the racing Suzuki RGV-Gamma XR74 in 1:12 scale: the final drive between the engine and the rear wheel. It is precisely the chain that tends to be the weakest place of kits in 1:12, because a plastic or rubber band from the box has no real links and from close up that can be told at once.
What the set addresses
The chain runs along the whole length of the swingarm and on a model nothing covers it. Both sprockets are visible, the course of the upper and the lower run, and above all whether the chain follows the teeth or merely winds limply. A replacement set makes it possible to thread the drive the way it looks on a real machine: with a precise engagement on the sprockets and with a slight sag of the lower run. The difference is discernible even from a distance, because the metallic gloss of the links behaves differently from painted plastic.
Plan the fitting before you close the swingarm and the rear wheel up, otherwise the chain cannot be threaded without taking things apart. Seat the sprockets in line with the drive shaft, so that the chain does not run askew. Degrease the parts, bond with super glue and use it drop by drop, so that it does not get into the links and stiffen their movement. Deal with the painting rather by toning than by covering: a dark wash in the recesses, a fine graphite or steel shade on the surfaces and a matte finish on the sides of the links. Lubricant and a glossy varnish do not belong on a chain, as they look unnatural on a model.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit of the motorcycle. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
