A small single-engine high-wing aircraft is a rewarding subject precisely in a small scale: the model takes a minimum of room in a display case and goes well with other aircraft of the same series.
The Cessna L-19, later redesignated the O-1 and known by the nickname Bird Dog, was a single-engine high-wing aircraft derived from a civilian design and used for observation, artillery spotting, liaison and training. Thanks to its low landing speed and its ability to operate from short and unpaved surfaces it spread to a number of countries. The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force operated the L-19E version as an observation and liaison machine, and license production in Japan also played a part with the type. A characteristic feature is the glazed cabin with an excellent view downward, which is exactly why the machine suited observation duties.
With an aircraft this small, the cleanliness of the work and patience are what count. Cut the parts off with a sharp tool and rather sand the joints than fill them with a thick layer of filler. The glazing is the dominant element on this type: mask the frames and apply the paint in thin coats, so they stay sharp. The struts and the landing gear are small, so fit them only after the fuselage has been painted. Apply the decals on a gloss surface and use a decal softener. Choose sparing weathering; with machines in service it is enough to suggest dusting of the lower surfaces and fine reflections on the glazing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
