A set of decals for a model of the turboprop Antonov An-24 transport aircraft in 1:144 scale. Decals are what assigns a model to a particular operator, and on machines operated at home this is a subject not commonly found in boxed schemes. The set is issued by the domestic maker MH models, whose decal range concentrates precisely on domestic and Central European markings.
The Antonov An-24 is a twin-engine turboprop high-wing aircraft for short and medium routes which came about at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. Besides civil service it found use in a number of countries in the military transport role, where it served to carry people and cargo, for training and for utility flights. In design it is an all-metal aircraft with a high-mounted wing, retractable landing gear and a characteristic rear end with cargo doors. It is precisely the combination of a high-wing layout with a tall tail surface that makes the An-24 a rewarding and easily recognizable model in the small scale.
In 1:144 scale the decals are small, and the preparation of the surface matters all the more. Varnish the area where a decal is to go with gloss varnish, otherwise a matte whitening will show under the carrier film. Cut close to the artwork with a sharp scalpel and a fresh cut, as a blunt blade tears the edge. Soak briefly in water and slide the decal off its backing with a damp brush; never pull it by the artwork with tweezers. On long fuselage stripes a softener helps so that the markings settle over the windows and the transitions. At the end, spray the model over with varnish to the degree of gloss you want.
The package holds decals. The model, paints, varnish and glue are not part of it.
