An injection-molded plastic kit of the Vickers Valetta T Mk.3 training version in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Valom. The package is made up of three sprues of plastic parts and separate clear parts for the glazing. By the standards of 1:72 scale the Valetta is a large twin-engine machine, so the finished model takes up a fair piece of the display cabinet and looks very effective. The number of marking options and the rest of the package contents are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The Vickers Valetta was a military transport aircraft derived from the civil Viking type, with a pair of Bristol Hercules radial engines and a tailwheel landing gear. The T Mk.3 version came about as a flying classroom for training navigators: stations for the pupils were fitted in the fuselage and the fuselage spine received a row of protruding observation domes, which distinguish the machine from the ordinary transport variant at a glance. This shape is interesting for a model precisely because of how strongly it changes the silhouette of an otherwise unremarkable transport aircraft.
The most sensitive part of the build is seating the observation domes, because any unevenness shows up immediately on the smooth fuselage spine. Test-fit the openings dry, glue the clear parts with cement for glazing and never spread the excess. Short-run plastic tends not to have locating pins, so mark the joints out beforehand and glue in stages. On a large twin-engine model, watch the symmetry of the nacelles and the wing dihedral. Mask the glazing before spraying and apply the matte topside shades in thin coats, so that the fine surface detail is not flooded.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
