A resin set of engine nacelles for a model of the Boeing 737 Classic series. According to the name it contains two engines, that is the complete fit for one aircraft. It is not a kit but a detail accessory replacing the plastic nacelles of the base model in 1:144 scale.
The CFM56-3 is the first generation of turbofans that the Classic series of the Boeing 737 received. Compared with the preceding powerplants the engine has a substantially larger fan diameter, but the 737 has a low-set wing and short landing gear, so an ordinary circular cowling would not fit underneath. The solution was to move the accessories from the bottom of the engine to the sides and to flatten the lower part of the cowling. This created the unmistakable shape of a nacelle with a flat bottom and an offset intake, which tells the Classic series of the 737 apart from both earlier and later versions at first glance. The nacelle hangs on a pylon pushed forward ahead of the leading edge of the wing, which is another feature clearly visible on a model.
Wash the castings and cut off the casting blocks, which on nacelles usually run along the mating surface of the pylon. Dry-fit both nacelles and compare them: they must be the same distance from the fuselage and at the same height. The flattened bottom of the cowling is the main reason you are buying the set, so take care when sanding not to round its edge off. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; on the larger mating surface epoxy also suits, as it gives you time to level things up. Paint the intake duct and the fan blades before assembly. Apply metallic shades on the exhaust section only onto a smooth glossy base, as on a matte coat they look grainy.
The set is supplied as a resin accessory, unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
