About product

de Havilland Mosquito NF/F/PR.II Intruder in 1:144 scale from Mark I Models

The kit captures the early versions of the second series of the Mosquito, that is, the machines of the Mk.II line. The designation in the name covers three lines at once: the NF.II night fighter, the F.II fighter used for intruder sorties over enemy territory and the PR.II photo-reconnaissance aircraft. The model is injection-molded from plastic, in 1:144 scale and from the Czech manufacturer Mark I Models. Check the package contents and the number of schemes offered on the box.

The real subject

The Mosquito Mk.II was the first production fighter configuration of the type. It carried fixed armament in the nose and in the lower part of the fuselage and was powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines. The NF.II night fighter was equipped with airborne radar whose antennas were visible on the nose and on the wing. Machines sent on intruder sorties, by contrast, often did not carry the radar, so as to avoid losing sensitive equipment over enemy territory. The PR.II photo-reconnaissance configuration came about by conversion and relied on speed and range instead of armament. It was precisely this trio of versions that gave the Mosquito its reputation as a machine that could get away from practically any opponent.

Building and painting tips

The key is to decide right at the start which of the versions you are building, because the nose and the equipment differ between the individual configurations. Compare your reference material according to the chosen variant in advance and only then start gluing. Small antennas and projections break easily at this scale, so handle them with tweezers and glue them on only at the end of the build. Dark night camouflage calls for careful application, otherwise the model loses detail to the eye. It helps to accentuate the panel lines lightly with a darker color or a very thin wash and, conversely, to lighten the centers of the surfaces gently. Matte varnish at the end will unify the surface and hide the edges of the decals.

Who the model is for

  • Anyone interested in night fighting and intruder sorties of the Second World War
  • Modelers building the development line of one type side by side
  • Builders who are comfortable with a small scale and a quicker build
  • Collectors of British twin-engine aircraft in a single scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The NF.II was a night fighter with airborne radar, the F.II served for intruder sorties and usually did not carry radar, and the PR.II was the photo-reconnaissance configuration. They differ mainly in the equipment of the nose and in armament.

The name of the boxing lists all three variants, but the exact package contents are not stated here. Before building, check what is in the instructions and choose the variant accordingly.

Rather for modelers with experience. In 1:144 scale the parts are small and the differences between versions are handled on a small area, which calls for careful work.
