A resin accessory for a model of the Boeing 777-200 in 1:144 scale. The set replaces the engine nacelles from a base kit and is seated on the pylons under the wing. It is not a model of the aircraft, but a detail part bought to go with one.
The GE90 is a two-shaft turbofan engine built for the twin-engine wide-body Boeing 777. Its recognition features are the wide composite fan blades with a curved leading edge, which were used on this scale for the first time on a production airliner engine. The power class of around ninety-four thousand pounds of thrust is tied to the long-range versions of the 777-200, which were among the first machines for which two engines were enough for long ocean routes. It is precisely on this aircraft that the shape of the engine is crucial: the nacelle has an enormous diameter and when seen from the front takes up a marked part of the silhouette, so even a small deviation in the shape of the intake shows at once. The Boeing 777 was meanwhile offered with powerplants from other manufacturers as well, whose nacelles look different, so the set belongs only on a machine with American engines of this make.
The casting of such a large nacelle has a noticeable weight, so the joint with the pylon has to be stronger than with small accessories. It proves useful to connect the part to the pylon with a short brass pin, for which a dimple is drilled in both parts, and only then to glue with thicker super glue in gel form, which gives time to position it. Cut the pour block away with a saw, level the mating surface on sanding paper on a board and wash the mold release agent off the castings before gluing. Resin sands fast and without flaking, but the dust is fine, so work with respiratory protection.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
