An unassembled and unpainted kit in injection-molded plastic from the Mark I brand. The box is focused on the two-seat variants of the Mirage III and Mirage 5 family in the form in which European operators flew them.
The Mirage III is a single-engine supersonic aircraft in a tailless layout with a low-mounted triangular delta wing. The two-seat versions came about by reworking the forward fuselage for a second seat in tandem and served mainly to train and convert pilots onto the single-seaters, while some of them kept their combat capability. The designations in the name on the box correspond to the two-seat variants delivered to several European operators; the individual variants differed in equipment and in airframe details. Their hallmarks are the sharp slender nose, the side air intakes with movable shock cones and the tall vertical tail.
Tailless aircraft with a delta wing live and die by the cleanliness of the leading edges, so fill the wing-to-fuselage joints and sand them carefully. Glue with liquid cement for plastic, which capillary action will draw into the seams. The longer canopy glazing of the two-seat version is rewarding to mask with narrow tape cut to size. Lay down a thin primer before painting. The natural metal surfaces that often appear on these aircraft need a really smooth base, ideally a gloss black or gray one. Apply the decals onto a gloss coat and once they are dry even out the surface with a matte or satin finish.
