This kit in 1:144 scale covers the Piper L-4 Grasshopper light observation and liaison aircraft in American service. In this scale it is a genuinely miniature model: the finished piece takes up only a few centimeters in a cabinet and works as an addition to larger scenes as well. That is exactly why you should count on very fine parts, thin struts and tiny glazing; a sharp knife, tweezers and good light are a necessity here.
The Piper L-4 is the military version of a light two-seat high-wing monoplane with a piston engine, a strut-braced wing and fixed landing gear with a tailwheel. It served for observation, directing artillery fire, liaison and carrying the wounded or important people. Its undemanding requirements for a landing strip made it an ever-present machine of field units, taking off even from plowed meadows and improvised surfaces. The cabin glazing was enlarged on the military machines for the sake of the observer's view.
On such a small aircraft care decides everything. Cut the parts away with a sharp knife right at the gate and go over the surfaces only lightly with fine paper. Glue the wing struts located dry, with a minimum of glue, ideally one at a time. The cabin glazing is fairly large in proportion to the fuselage and can be masked with liquid mask. Spray the paint heavily thinned, so that the fine surface detail stays visible. Apply the decals onto gloss varnish. Keep the weathering to a minimum, as even a faint wash looks strong on a miniature model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
