The YS-11E in the electronic warfare unit version is an injection-molded plastic kit in 1:144 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. It captures a special form of the Japanese turboprop transport aircraft.

An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:144 scale, that is in the scale in which transport aircraft are commonly built and in which a collection can be kept even in a small cabinet. Hasegawa has long released the YS-11 in various forms, and this box is devoted to the E version in service with an electronic warfare unit of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The different equipment of such a version is the main reason to buy the box: an ordinary transport YS-11 looks different.
The YS-11 is a twin-engined turboprop transport aircraft, the only postwar Japanese transport type built in series. It appeared at the beginning of the 1960s, flew with airlines and with state services alike, and served in Japan for many decades. Special military versions of the YS-11 were used for training and for tasks connected with electronic warfare, and you can recognize them by the additional antennas and fairings that the basic transport machine does not have. The large wings, the tall landing gear legs and the massive propellers give the YS-11 a recognizable silhouette even in a small scale.
In 1:144 scale it is the cleanliness of the joints and a thin coat of paint that decide the result. Glue the fuselage and the wings with thin cement for plastic, fill the gaps and sand them back with fine paper, so that they are not visible under a glossy finish. Fit the clear parts only after spraying and mask them with tape or a masking set. Metallic surfaces and light finishes need a smooth base, so it pays to polish the surface. Apply the decals to gloss varnish and add a softener, or in a small scale they will not cling to the detail. Add the small antennas and fairings at the end, so that they do not get broken off during handling.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
