An add-on set of wheels for the model of the German Sd.Kfz. 250 half-track vehicle in the large 1:16 scale. The tread has the common off-road pattern and, according to the name, the set is intended for kits from Das Werk.

The real subject

The Sd.Kfz. 250 was a light armored half-track of the German army of the Second World War. At the rear it rested on tracked running gear, at the front it had an axle with wheels used for steering, so the front wheel is conspicuous and clearly visible on the model. In the large 1:16 scale a soft rendering of the tread has nowhere to hide: every detail is big and the viewer has it right in front of his eyes.

What the set brings

• A crisp rendering of the tread and of the tire sidewall, which on the kit parts tends to be subdued.
• A swap with no work on the hull: only the wheels change.
• Parts in a size that is easy to hold and easy to paint.
• Try the fit on the axle dry; the hole for the pin may need opening up with a drill.
• Cut the excess material and the marks left by production away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the area down.

Building and painting tips

Wash and degrease the parts before painting; paint does not hold on an unwashed surface. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), which holds whatever the parts are made of. Leave the tire dark and matte and paint the rim in the vehicle shade instead, picking out the edges lightly with a dry brush. Add dust and mud sparingly: in a large scale a heavy layer gives itself away quickly.
