A large plastic kit of the American self-propelled gun from the Classy Hobby brand. 1:16 is a size class in which every rivet and the interior equipment stand out, and the model matches it: besides the hull and the rotating turret it also holds elements of the interior, clear parts, photo-etched metal and movable track links.
The machine came about by setting an open rotating turret with a 75 mm howitzer on the chassis of the M5 Stuart light tank. The task was to support advancing tank and reconnaissance units with direct as well as indirect fire where ordinary artillery could not get in time. The vehicles served from 1942 in Europe and in the Pacific, mainly with the reconnaissance battalions of armored divisions. The open top of the turret gave the crew a view and quick loading, but at the same time it exposed them to fragments. In the second half of the war the role of the M8 was gradually taken over by Shermans with a howitzer of 105 millimeters caliber.
First finish and paint the inside of the hull and the turret, because after closing there will be no access to it. Assemble the track links on a flat surface and leave them movable, so that they sag naturally over the wheels. Join the plastic parts with thin cement by capillary action into the seams, and the photo-etched metal with super glue. Prepare the surface with primer and modulate the olive color with lighter shades, otherwise such a large area would come across as dead. At the end come washes into the recesses and dust pigments on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and tools have to be obtained separately, unless stated otherwise.
