A detailing set from the Japanese brand Top Studio aimed at the brake assembly of models of formula cars in 1:20 scale. The numeral in the name tells apart the individual variants of brake sets that the manufacturer issues in this range one after another. The set is not a model of a car; it is a replacement for the brakes of the base kit, which the modeler buys separately.
Why it pays to change the brakes: on a single-seater the discs, the calipers and the cooling ducts are exposed, and with the wheel fitted the whole inside of the rim is visible. A production plastic disc, meanwhile, tends to be thicker than the scale calls for and has its cooling grooves only suggested. Replacement parts move this assembly on visibly.
It is fitted into the wheel suspension while building the chassis, before the wheels are fitted and before the front part of the car is closed up. Together with the drive shafts and the wheel nuts it makes up the trio of assemblies by which the level of the chassis is raised most effectively.
Paint the discs separately from the calipers: a disc looks best with a dark graphite shade and a fine metallic hint on the friction surface, while a caliper tends to be set apart by color. Degrease the parts and give them a base color, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Bond with super glue in a minimal amount. Before you cut the original plastic spigots off, make sure by a dry test that the replacement seats on the same axis, otherwise the offset of the wheel from the body will go out.
This is not a kit of a model. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
