New Bedford Whaler is a plastic kit of the historic American whaling sailing ship in 1:200 scale from the manufacturer Academy.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit captures a typical American whaling sailing ship of the first half of the 19th century. The model has a well worked-out hull with the relief of copper sheathing, fine masts and yards, sails and rigging from the thread enclosed, detailed whaleboats and a stand. Paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
The whaling ships from the port of New Bedford in Massachusetts sailed all over the world around 1835 hunting sperm whales. New Bedford was the home port of hundreds of whaling vessels and ranked among the world centers of this trade. The ships carried a full suit of sails and on deck large try-pots for rendering whale oil as well as the boats lowered for the hunt itself.
This is a sailing ship, so besides gluing the hull and the superstructure, work with the masts, the yards and the rigging awaits you. Tension the thread evenly and fix it with a drop of super glue. The wood and the copper sheathing will stand out after a base coat and a fine wash; the sails will benefit from discreet toning.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
