A set of waterslide decals with technical lettering, the so-called stencils, for a large model of the Japanese Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate fighter, given the Allied code name Frank, in 1:32 scale. The maker is the Czech company Art Scale. The sheet brings the small service, warning and maintenance lettering that gives the surface of a model the realistic, densely marked look typical of period equipment.

The real subject

The Ki-84 Hayate was among the best performing Japanese army fighters of the closing stage of the Second World War. It was marked by a powerful radial engine, a good rate of climb and decent agility. The technical stencils on the real airframe marked access panels, fuel and oil filling points and instructions for the ground crew.

Application

• The decals are soaked in lukewarm water and moved onto a glossy, clear-coated surface.
• A softener and a fixer are worth using so that the stencils settle into the details.
• At the end the surface is unified with a flat or semi-gloss clear varnish.
