A mask set for the ZiL-3250 bus in 1:43 scale outlines the glazing, the lights and the color transitions of the body when spraying. It is not a kit but an aid to painting.

A set of shaped pre-cut painting masks for a model of the small ZiL-3250 bus in 1:43 scale. It is not a kit and not replacement parts, but an aid to painting: the masks are stuck onto the clear part and onto the body, sprayed over and lifted off once dry. The result is a crisp edge between the glass and the window frame, which in this scale is practically impossible to achieve with a brush or with hand-cut tape.
For its size a bus has a disproportionate amount of glazed area, and every window has a frame of its own. Masking by hand then takes longer than the spraying itself, and a single slip of the blade is enough for the result to show. Masks cut to the shape of the parts shorten this step and at the same time hold the same frame width around the whole perimeter. They are useful as well on two-tone bodies where the dividing line runs across the pressings and must not go soft.
Degrease the parts before sticking the masks on and let them dry completely, as a mask creeps on a greasy surface. Press the mask down from the center toward the edges, with particular care in the corners and on rounded transitions. Apply the paint in several thin coats, as a thick coat lifts the edge of the mask and creates a ridge. Lift the mask off while the paint is still freshly set, and do it at a shallow angle backward rather than straight off the surface. On a two-tone scheme always spray the lighter shade first and let the darker one go under the mask.
