A set of the LACI brand replaces the engine nacelles on a model of the Airbus A321 narrow-body airliner in the original ceo version, that is, with CFM56-5B engines. It is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model of an aircraft: the parts from the box are removed and more precisely shaped replacements are seated in their place. The set is cut for the kit from the manufacturer Zvezda, because a variant of the same set for another model also exists, and without this detail the two could not be told apart.
The Airbus A321 is the longest member of the A320 family and, in the original configuration now designated ceo, was delivered with two types of engine: the CFM56-5B and the IAE V2500-A5. The CFM56 line came about from cooperation between a French and an American manufacturer and became one of the most widespread airliner engines of all; besides the A320 family it also powers Boeing 737s of the Classic and NG lines. The 5B variant was developed precisely for the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 and in its most powerful configuration matched the weights of the stretched A321. The CFM56 nacelle has an unmistakably flattened underside to the inlet, by which the type of engine can be recognized in a photograph at first glance.
Cut or sand the original nacelles from the kit off so that the replacement beds down on the pylon with no gap, and refine the surface with a file. Try the parts dry and check that both engines point in the same direction and have the same angle relative to the wing; this is best judged by looking from the front and from above. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue in small drops. It is practical to paint the engines separately from the airframe and to fit them only at the end, because the inside of the nacelle and the blades are difficult to spray on a finished model. Apply the metallic shades of the exhaust section onto a smooth surface, otherwise the texture of the surface will show.
