This item is not a model or a kit. It is a color display mat for a model in 1:48 scale, printed with an airfield apron paved with interlocking slabs. The format is circular, so the model comes out in the center and the surrounding paving forms a frame.

What it is good for. A finished model standing on a bare table or on a glass shelf looks as though it were floating in a void. A printed surface gives it surroundings and scale in a moment, with no diorama to build, no modeling compound and no static grass to scatter. For photography it is the quickest way to get a sensible background under a model.

How to work with the mat

• Let it lie out freely before use, so that it settles and does not keep the shape of the package.
• If you want to stiffen it, glue it to a thin flat board. Apply the glue in a thin even layer, otherwise the surface will ripple.
• Try weathering, that is, pigments or fine washes, on the edge or on an offcut first. The reaction of a printed surface differs with the material.
• It is better to just stand the model on the mat, or to fix it with a spot of double-sided tape. Gluing it permanently needlessly limits further use.
• When photographing, watch that the size of the paving pattern matches the model. The print is cut for 1:48.
